About the house
Victoria's Secret began in 1977 as a lingerie shop run by Roy Raymond and his wife Gaye. Accounts differ on where the first store stood: one places it in the Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto, California, another in San Francisco. Its mail-order catalogue was built around a character called Victoria.
The Limited acquired the company in 1982. The parent was renamed L Brands in 2013, and Victoria's Secret was later spun off as an independent public company, Victoria's Secret & Co., while L Brands became Bath & Body Works, Inc. The spun-off company comprises Victoria's Secret Lingerie, PINK and Victoria's Secret Beauty.
The company says it launched its first fragrance line in 1991. One press history of the brand lists Victoria, Rapture and Encounter among the early fragrances and says they sold well. A separate unit, Intimate Beauty Corporation, was later created to manage and develop the bath, fragrance and cosmetic products for Victoria's Secret.
ELLE has run a piece marking fifteen years of Bombshell. The perfumer credited with it is Adriana Medina. She describes it as clean, floral and musky, and says it is now the number one fragrance in the Victoria's Secret fragrance portfolio.
