Our take

You get the opening and you think, maybe this one is going somewhere interesting. Osmanthus and black currant give a tart, jammy wobble, a little fruity flirtation before the violet powders it over. But then the heart arrives, and it’s all lotus and peony, a polite pond of white florals, glassy and still. The rose and freesia add a familiar soapiness, the kind that whispers “department store counter” rather than “hidden garden.” By the drydown, it’s a clean musk with ambrette—soft, slightly nutty, but barely there. If this fragrance were a painting, it would be a watercolor of a single peony floating in a ceramic bowl, pretty but perfectly contained. Nothing leaks past the edges. That’s the whole problem. With longevity barely scraping 2.85 and sillage hovering at a whisper, 802 evaporates before you’ve finished walking through the bamboo it’s named after. Karine Dubreuil-Sereni has made something undeniably fresh and aquatic, perfect for a humid July afternoon when you want to feel laundered and neutral, but it lacks the nerve to leave a real impression. It suits someone who wants to smell nice without smelling like they’re wearing perfume—spring-summer day wear, office-friendly, invisible by lunch. Skip it if you crave projection, depth, or anything that sticks around long enough to be remembered. 🌸
