Our take

Fumidus opens with a sharp, almost aggressive blast of smoky birch, like a campfire that’s been fed damp logs and a splash of cheap whiskey. The vetiver is there from the start, but it’s buried under all that heat, only emerging as the birch settles into a sooty, almost leathery glow. This isn’t a polite whiskey, either; it’s the warm, boozy breath of a man who’s been tending the fire all night and isn’t sorry about it. The drydown is where the magic happens for me — the smoke fades just enough to let a dry, earthy vetiver and a whisper of sweet oak speak. The overall character feels like a leather jacket left too close to the bonfire: singed, worn, and utterly masculine in a way that’s neither synthetic nor loud. With a sillage rating just above 3 and longevity near 4, it projects well for the first hour then settles into a close, skin-hugging warmth that lasts through a long winter evening. It’s perfect for a cold October night, a leather club chair in a dim bar, or any moment you want to feel grounded and a little dangerous. But if you shy away from heavy smoke or find birch tar cloying, skip it — this one doesn’t ask permission.
