Our take

The heavy velvet curtain parts, and the warm, amber glow of the private lounge spills into the hallway, carrying the scent of polished wood and expensive tobacco. Inside, the air is thick with conversation and the unmistakable presence of Mon Precioux. It does not arrive quietly. The Bulgarian rose leads the way, but it is not the fresh, dewy petal of a spring morning. It is a deep, wine-dark red, steeped in alcohol and spilled across a silk dress. This rose has a feverish intensity, a lush floral heart that feels almost edible before it takes a sudden, dark turn. As the evening settles in and the ice in the glasses begins to melt, the Laotian oud emerges from the floral haze. It is a resinous, medicinal woodiness that bites at the nose, raw and commanding. This is not a smooth, polished ingredient. It feels ancient and untamed, a piece of splintered timber that refuses to be ignored. The animalic accord curls around the oud, lending a visceral, skin-like warmth that makes the fragrance feel alive, moving and shifting with the body's own heat. It is a scent that demands the low lighting of the room, thriving in the shadows where the papyrus base begins to scratch at the senses. Dry and fibrous, that papyrus keeps the heavy woods from becoming suffocating, grounding the scent in a dusty, library-like woodiness that feels like parchment.
