Orris opens Qalah with a cool, powdered root tone that feels scrubbed clean rather than sweet. It reads more like a pale fabric than a flower, with a faintly starchy dryness that keeps the entrance restrained.
Vetiver arrives with a green, earthy pull that deepens the iris without overtaking it. The two sit side by side, the rooty softness of the orris meeting the grassy, soil-like edge of the vetiver in a steady, grounded middle.
White cedar brings a pale, resinous wood that feels almost luminous against the darker material nearby. Oud enters with a dense, resinous weight, its fermented richness spreading slowly and giving the base a heavy, opulent floor. The cedar keeps the oud from feeling entirely closed off, letting a faint, dry air move through the resin. Powder from the opening drifts down here as well, settling into the wood and softening every hard edge. The result is a base that feels layered and slow, where pale timber and dark resin occupy the same space without one erasing the other.
A heavy coat is pulled tighter under a streetlamp while the air carries a faint chill. The powder clings to fabric, and the resin feels appropriate against the dark. Wood presses in, rich and unhurried, while the green edge lingers just far enough away to remind you where the evening began.
