Rain hits the pavement outside a garage bay while the air inside stays dry and resinous. Nutmeg and red pepper sit in the air like heat rising off a car hood after a drive, sharp and bright without biting the nose. Violet leaf pulls the scene toward something green and damp, catching the smell of wet concrete and metal. This is not a fragrance that tries to soften the space. It sits in the middle of it, heavy with amber and oud, while the windows fog and the light outside shifts from grey to darker grey.
Lavender moves through the room in a thin ribbon, clean and slightly powdery, touching the orris that settles near the floor. The orris brings a rooty weight that keeps the lavender from floating away, grounding the floral edge so it feels like part of the structure rather than a decoration. Frankincense coils upward in a slow drift, dry and faintly medicinal, meeting the patchouli that clings to the sleeves of a jacket left on a chair. The notes do not arrive in a line. They occupy the room together, some high and some low, some sharp and some blunt.
There is no sweetness here to speak of, only the warm press of amber against the dry pull of oud, the pepper still faintly present in the back of the throat while the frankincense makes the air feel older than the building.
