Tonka by Commodity opens with a sharp, almost medicinal hit of cardamom and artemisia, but that herbal sting is quickly softened by a warm almond dustiness. The magnolia and lotus in the heart are barely perceptible, more like a faint floral echo than any real bloom. Within minutes, the tonka bean takes over, sinking into a blanket of benzoin and sandalwood that feels plush and slightly vanillic, though the Peru balsam lends a powdery, ambered dryness that keeps it from being cloying. The overall character is that of a well-worn cashmere throw draped over a radiator in a dimly lit study.

This is not a perfume that announces itself. With a sillage of just over three and longevity barely touching the three hour mark, it stays close to the skin, a private comfort rather than a public declaration.
