Our take

Commodity’s Whiskey opens with a brisk slap of eucalyptus and lemon, the citrus sharp enough to cut through a morning fog, but it’s that green, camphorous edge that keeps it from veering into bathroom cleaner territory. Bergamot adds a faint sweetness, but the real shift comes fast: lavender and sage wrestle the freshness into something aromatic and slightly dusty, like a tweed jacket that’s been left in a closet with a sachet of dried herbs. The base is where it earns its name. Oak, amber, and a surprisingly powdery black musk roll in with cinnamon’s warm, spicy breath, but this isn’t a boozy, caramel-soaked pour. It’s the wooden bar top after the whiskey’s been drunk, the scent of polished oak and residual heat. That restraint is both its strength and its weakness. The performance numbers are honest: longevity barely hits three hours, sillage hovers close to the skin. You get a whisper, not a shout, and on a cold fall evening that works beautifully, a private glow against the wind. But a spring daytime wear feels like wearing an overcoat in April, too heavy, too brief. Who is this for? The man who wants a woody scent that doesn’t try to be a bonfire, who prefers his spices dried and his musk blurred. Skip it if you crave projection or a gourmand whiskey blast. It’s a fine, introspective fragrance, a nudge rather than an embrace, but one that deserves more staying power.
