Our take

Morning sun hits the cedar deck of a mountain cabin. A pot of Lapsang Souchong steeps on the table, its smoke curling into the crisp air. Someone slices into a yellow mandarin, the bright citrus oil misting outward. Kensei lives in this exact intersection of hot tea and fresh fruit.

The smoke does not overwhelm the fruit. Instead, the black pepper in the tea adds a sharp bite to the mandarin's sweetness. It is a woody and aromatic scene. The balsam fir from the surrounding trees blends with the cedar note in the glass, making the boundary between the forest and the fragrance disappear.

Saffron threads sit in a small dish nearby, their earthy scent grounding the bright yuzu and nashi pear. The air feels clean and green. Gentleman’s Nod presents a composition that feels natural, like the environment shaped the formula rather than a lab. Patricia Choux built a scent that captures a specific altitude and temperature.

The citrus is vivid, but the amberwood base feels a bit thin. It lacks the deep resonance found in more established woody fragrances. The blend is pleasant and sharp, yet it does not offer a complex evolution beyond this initial bright and smoky picture.
