Quantum of Solace
Fragrance notes
Character
Quantum of Solace opens with a sharp, crowded mix that can feel cluttered rather than fresh. Thyme, rosemary, and basil sit next to bergamot, lemon, and mandarin orange, while cassis, peach, and litchi add a sweet, fruity gloss. The sheer number of top notes makes the entrance busy, and the herbal side sometimes clashes with the citrus instead of supporting it. Star anise and marigold add a slightly bitter edge that keeps the opening from feeling smooth.
The heart expands into a dense floral and green blend. Lily-of-the-valley, hyacinth, and galbanum lead the green impression, while rose, taif rose, jasmine, and ylang-ylang build a heavy white floral weight. Herbal notes like angelica, artemisia, and bay leaf continue from the top, joined by cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Pine needles and lavender add a cool, resinous touch. The composition feels dark and layered, suited to a warm, dimly lit room where the air is still and the scent can settle around you.
The base turns woody and animalic. Patchouli, oakmoss, and vetiver sit under sandalwood, Virginia cedar, and guaiac wood. Leather, castoreum, and civet add a rough, musky depth, while benzoin, labdanum, amber, and vanilla soften the edges with sweet resin. White musk lingers underneath. The accord that defines the drydown is amber.
