Our take

This fragrance opens with a sharp, almost brittle snap of pink and black pepper, green juniper and a watery bamboo that feels more like a clear stream than a dense jungle. It’s bracing, aromatic, and refreshingly unsweet. Then the palo santo floats in like incense smoke from a quiet room, soft and resinous, carrying a hint of creosote and sacred wood. That transition is the whole point: from brisk to meditative. The base settles into a dry, powdery duet of sandalwood and cedar, with a touch of musky leather and the faintly earthy, tar-like twist of cypriol. It stays close, like a whisper held between two people. Think of a love letter written in soft pencil on rough paper, easily smudged, easily lost.

And that’s exactly where this scent stumbles. The longevity barely pushes past two hours on skin, and the sillage is little more than a personal aura, a 2.12 on a scale that might as well be labeled “tell me you’re gone without saying a word.” For something called “We Are Lovers,” it feels shy to the point of vanishing. Bertrand Duchaufour built a beautifully balanced woody-spicy skeleton, but the muscles are missing. It is not a scent that demands attention; it waits to be discovered, preferably by someone who likes to press their nose directly to your wrist. ✨

This is for the quiet minimalist, the person who wears fragrance for themselves on a rainy autumn afternoon, or as a second-skin layer beneath a cashmere scarf. Skip it if you want projection, longevity, or anything with an ounce of sweetness. Wear it to a bookstore, a gallery opening where conversation is low, or an intimate dinner where leaning in is part of the ritual. It has the bones of a great scent, but the flesh is thin.
