Our take

The door opens onto a street where the air still carries a morning chill. A man steps out wearing Statesman, and the opening hits immediately with lime and orange bright against the cold. Bergamot adds a clean edge while cloves bring a sharp bite, and juniper gives the citrus a pine-like lift that feels crisp without turning sharp. The fragrance sits close to the skin in this first moment, a bright cloud that cuts through the damp air.

As the walk continues past rows of bare trees, the heart begins to show. Tolu balsam arrives with a resinous weight that feels smooth and slightly sticky. Cedar adds a dry wood that grounds the resins, and a faint rose note floats through, soft and powdery, never turning floral or sweet. The spices from the opening linger here, now wrapped in wood and balm, creating a scent that feels polished and composed.

The base settles in as the path turns toward a brick building. Amber and sandalwood create a warm, golden layer that feels rich and slightly creamy. Oud adds a dark, dry wood that keeps the sweetness of tonka bean from becoming heavy. Patchouli sits underneath it all with an earthy depth that ties the resins to the ground. The fragrance feels like a well-tailored coat, structured and warm against the cool air.

Sunlight hits the wet pavement and reflects off the brick facade, casting a warm glow on the wool sleeve where the scent of amber, oud, and tonka bean rests above the cedar and rose.
