Our take

Victoria by Frassai opens with a burst of litchi that is less the sugary pink flesh of the fruit and more its translucent, almost metallic skin, sharpened by litsea cubeba and a green, peppery petitgrain. This is not a sweet tropical cocktail. The citrus here is nervy and bright, like light hitting wet leaves. The heart arrives quickly: tuberose, but not the creamy, sun-drenched kind. This one is cool and rubbery, wrapped in the smoky, balsamic grip of styrax, with a rose that feels powdered and slightly bitter. The whole composition pulls toward the animalic before you even reach the base. Castoreum and oud slink in like a shadow, sticky and leathery, with olibanum adding a church-like incense that never fully cleanses the skin. Patchouli grounds everything in dark, damp earth.

The effect is a greenhouse gone feral. A white flower corsage left overnight on warm suede, then forgotten. The longevity sits at a modest three and a half hours, and the sillage is intimate, barely a whisper past arm’s length. That restraint is both its grace and its weakness: you have to lean in to catch the animalic drift, which makes it feel more like a secret than a statement. This is a niche floral with a real backbone. It suits someone who loves tuberose but wants it roughed up, who enjoys the tension between clean and dirty. Skip it if you want a crowd-pleasing cloud of sweetness or a perfume that announces itself from across the room. Wear it on a cool spring evening or a rainy autumn afternoon, when the air can handle a little grit.
