Imprevu
Fragrance notes
Character
Imprevu opens with a brisk flash of aldehydes, bitter orange, bergamot, coriander, and neroli. The citrus feels crisp and slightly bitter, while the floral lift gives the entrance a polished, old-school elegance. As it settles, orris brings a soft powdery texture, with carnation adding warm spice around rose, ylang-ylang, and jasmine. The effect is composed and distinctive, with a cool freshness running through its floral core.
Its deeper side is where the character becomes more assured. Oakmoss, leather, vetiver, and patchouli bring an earthy, woody frame, while sandalwood and benzoin round the edges with smooth warmth. Ambergris and musk add an animalic trace that keeps the drydown textured and quietly sensual. Bernard Chant’s composition has a classic chypre shape, though the citrus and aldehydic opening give it plenty of lift for contemporary daytime wear.
Imprevu is long-lasting, with a finish that stays firm and well defined. The sillage forms a modest bubble, making it easy to wear in shared spaces without losing its presence. It suits someone who enjoys elegant vintage structure, dry woods, moss, and carefully balanced florals. Spring, summer, fall, and winter all suit it, especially when a tailored, polished mood feels right. The final impression is a mossy leather glove resting beside a bowl of bright citrus peel.
