Fragrance notes
Velvet Amber opens with saffron and jasmine. The saffron arrives first, warm and slightly metallic, while the jasmine floats above it with a clean, white floral lift. This opening is brief and serves only to introduce the heavier materials waiting underneath. Sugar cane and ambergris take over quickly, adding a damp, mineral sweetness that feels thick rather than bright. Oakmoss grounds the heart with a green, earthy texture that keeps the sugar from becoming flat.
The base is where the fragrance settles into its true shape. Vanilla and toffee merge with benzoin to create a deep, resinous amber that feels sticky and rich. White musk softens the edges but cannot hide the weight of the composition. The combination of animalic ambergris and mossy earthiness gives the scent a slightly dirty undertone that some will find compelling and others will find off-putting. It is undeniably sweet, but the moss and musk pull it away from a simple gourmand profile. The limitation here is the sugar cane note, which reads as a blunt, artificial syrup against the more natural resin and moss. It disrupts the sophisticated amber with a candy-like sharpness that never fully integrates.
