Our take

The lounge sits quiet after the evening crowd has thinned. A low fire crackles in the stone hearth while cool air drifts through a cracked window. Hotel Vesuvius lives in this room. Birch and pine tree stand beside cedar and sandalwood, their grains pressed into the floorboards and the heavy beams overhead. Violet adds a soft, powdery haze that floats near the upholstery. Java vetiver oil grounds the air with its earthy weight. Oud and musk settle into the leather chairs, clinging to the worn cushions and the wool thrown across a sofa back.

The deeper notes claim most of the space. The oud feels dry and resinous, wrapped in sandalwood that smooths its edges without removing its character. Cedar brings a clean, dry line through the heavier woods. Musk lingers in the fabric, quiet and steady. Java vetiver oil adds a rooty depth that keeps the woods from feeling flat. Violet returns in small traces, its powdery touch light enough to keep the composition from turning harsh. The leather accord rests across the scene like a familiar coat left on a chair.

The powdery accord sits a little too high. It pushes the violet forward until the wood feels slightly masked. The leather loses some of its texture beneath the fine dust of the floral note. Enrico Buccella composed a fragrance that captures a still room with precision, but the balance leans toward the powder at the expense of the bark and smoke.
