Our take

Sillage opens with a sharp, slightly abrasive oud that’s quickly softened by violet’s cool, vintage powder and saffron’s metallic warmth, like a leather jacket left to dry in a spice market at dusk. The heart pulls toward a surprisingly fruity sweetness with raspberry, but the olibanum and jasmine keep it from tipping into jammy territory, leaning instead into a resinous, church-like incense glow. In the drydown, suede and benzoin meld with vanilla and amber into a plush, powdery base, while musk and oud linger just beneath the surface, a faint but persistent shadow.

The overall character is a velvet-lined box that once held something dangerous — a contradiction of plushness and grit. It’s sweet, amber-heavy, and decidedly synthetic in the best sense, more niche than mainstream, with a polish that suggests careful curation. Longevity is excellent at 4.30, though sillage hovers at a moderate 3.71, which feels right: this isn’t a room-filler, it’s a personal cocoon you catch in whiffs. The rating of 4.24 is fair, but the winter and fall dominance tells the real story — this is a cold-weather scent through and through, best worn at night, as the 93% night preference confirms.

Who should wear it? Anyone who wants to smell expensive without shouting about it, who prefers a sweet-balsamic oud over a barnyard one, and who can tolerate a powdery violet-suede combo that might skew a little mature. Who should skip? Those seeking a crisp, fresh oud or a loud, linear beast. The only real weakness is the raspberry — it’s well-behaved here, but a touch more tartness could have lifted the dark middle. Wear it to a winter gala or a quiet, candlelit dinner where the only competition is the fire.
