Our take

Fêtes Persanes opens with a sharp snap of black pepper and bergamot that feels like a door swinging open into a spice souk. The heart is where Cécile Zarokian does her real work, cardamom and cinnamon threading through a restrained rose that never gets syrupy or old-fashioned. Cloves add a baked warmth, a hint of clove-studded orange pomander. As it dries down, the vanilla and guaiac wood settle into a soft, woody sweetness with a resinous cedar backbone, while patchouli keeps it from tipping into gourmand territory.

This is a fragrance that behaves like a silk merchant’s ledger, its pages stained with cinnamon and rosewater, closed and tucked away. It feels natural, layered, unapologetically niche but not avant-garde. The problem is its modesty. With a longevity rating of 3.39 and sillage barely past arm’s length, it asks you to lean in close. That works beautifully for a cozy evening by the fire or a winter afternoon with cashmere and tea, but if you want a fragrance that announces your arrival from across the room, look elsewhere. Fall and winter are its true home, spring acceptable if you spray lightly. Skip it if your skin eats vanilla or if you prefer projection over intimacy. This one is for the person who wears fragrance for themselves, not to fill a room.
