Our take

Halfeti Leather opens with a burst of plum and cardamom that is less fruity than it sounds, more like the sticky sweetness of a dark spice cake left in a room where someone is smoking. The lavender and green notes do not soften it; they only add a fleeting herbal chill before the heart rushes in with cumin, nutmeg, and a rose that has been crushed into leather dust. This is not a polite scent. The oud and incense in the base are thick and smoky, wrapped in a patchouli that feels almost animalic, like the hide of a beast that has been lying near a fire all night. Christian Provenzano has built a fragrance that smells like a library that has been sealed for decades, its velvet chairs stained with coffee and resin, the air thick enough to chew on. The longevity is decent for its heft, around six to seven hours, but the sillage stays close to the skin after the first hour, which might frustrate those who want to announce their arrival from across a room. That intimacy, however, suits its character. Halfeti Leather is for the person who wants to smell like a dark, expensive secret, not a party trick. Skip it if you find cumin or strong leather challenging, or if you prefer your warmth bright and citrusy. Wear it on a cold November night, alone with a book or walking through a city after rain, when the world already smells a little bit of asphalt and woodsmoke. Is there a more perfect winter evening scent? Hardly.
