Mr Harrod opens with a blast of raspberry and cinnamon, a boozy, jammy sweetness that feels like stepping into a gentleman’s club where someone just spilled a fruit compote on the velvet. That initial brightness is quickly swallowed by plum and jasmine, turning the sweetness darker, more syrupy, almost medicinal in its floral weight. Then the base takes over: a heavy blanket of tobacco, patchouli, oud, cashmeran, cedar, and ambergris. It’s a dense, slightly synthetic but well-blended oriental, sweet in a way that clings. The overall character is like a dark fruitcake studded with oud, left to mellow in a mahogany drawer, rich and slightly oppressive.
The performance is moderate; longevity sits around average, and sillage stays close after an hour, which might actually be a mercy given the intensity. This isn’t a fresh or airy fragrance, it’s a full-on winter coat of a scent, best worn in the crisp cold or a rainy autumn evening, especially if you’re heading to a dinner or a dimly lit bar. It suits someone who appreciates a sweet, woody, tobacco-laced profile with a touch of oud’s animalic edge, but if you prefer clean, aquatic, or minimalist scents, you will feel smothered.
