Our take

Per Fumum is not a safe daily choice. Philippine Courtière built a composition that leans hard into its sweet and balsamic accords, and the praline and vanilla in the base sit heavily next to Peru balsam and patchouli. That density makes it a poor match for warm weather or for anyone who prefers a clean, understated scent. The opening of cypress and grapefruit tries to lift the blend, but the cinnamon and pink pepper push it back toward a thick, resinous warmth that can feel overwhelming in the wrong setting. If you want something versatile that disappears neatly into the background, this is not the bottle to reach for.

This fragrance belongs on a cold evening walk when the air is crisp and the streetlights reflect off damp pavement. The cedar and benzoin create a soft, powdery woodiness that wraps around the skin like a heavy scarf, while the cashmeran adds a musky depth that suits quiet, intimate occasions. It is for the person who enjoys standing out in a crowd and does not mind a scent that announces its presence with spice and amber. Wear it when the weather invites layers and warm drinks. A glowing lantern in a dark, frozen garden.
