Our take

Lemon and mint hit first, clean and brisk, with bergamot rounding the edges so the start feels bright rather than sharp. It moves quickly into lavender and geranium, where the herbs meet a soft white ginger lily that keeps the heart from feeling like a medicine cabinet. Nutmeg adds a gentle heat that sits just beneath the surface, giving the middle a faintly kitchen-like warmth that some will love and others will find oddly domestic.

The base is where LACE Perfume settles into its true personality. Vetiver brings a dry, earthy green that anchors the earlier herbs, while labdanum spreads a resinous amber weight across the skin. Cloves linger in the background, more felt than smelled, nudging the composition toward something darker and more masculine than the sparkling opening promised. It becomes less about freshness now and more about that resinous, slightly dusty warmth that clings to fabric and hair.

Jane Cate built a fragrance that shifts from citrus to amber without ever smoothing out the transition. The mint never fully disappears, which means the drydown carries a cool thread through the heavy labdanum and vetiver. It suits someone who enjoys watching a perfume change shape over the course of an afternoon, especially in cooler weather when the spices can breathe. There is a slight roughness here, a lack of polish that keeps it from feeling like a mainstream release, and that
