Our take

Oud Bouquet opens with a generous dusting of praline, the kind of sticky, nutty sweetness that threatens to overwhelm before the rose steps in to cool it down. That rose is perfectly timed, a tart, almost jammy counterpoint that keeps the sugar from turning into a headache. Then the oud arrives, but don’t expect any barnyard or medicinal bite. This is a polished, velvety oud, smoothed out by vanilla and guaiac wood into a warm, balsamic base that feels more like a cashmere blanket than a smoky temple. The copahu balm adds a faint resinous luster, like the gleam on an old piano. Overall, the effect is a single, vivid image: a dark chocolate truffle dusted with rose petals and buried in a pile of expensive scarves. It’s heavy and sweet, with a synthetic gloss that makes it feel squarely mainstream, but Fabrice Pellegrin executed it with real skill. Longevity is excellent, easily eight hours, though sillage sits close to the skin after the first hour, a modest hum rather than a shout. This is strictly for fans of sweet, gourmand ouds who enjoy dressing up and don’t mind smelling like a dessert cart at a black tie gala. If you want something dry, leathery, or challenging, walk away. It thrives in deep winter, suits evening wear perfectly, and will likely feel cloying in any warmth. That said, for a cold night out, it’s a cozy, confident indulgence.
