Our take

Narcotica by Narcotica opens with a startling jolt of sugar, black pepper, and cypress, the sweetness nearly cloying before the spice kicks it in the teeth. That sugar fades fast, thank goodness, leaving behind a heart that smells like a humid greenhouse where someone’s been tending illegal plants. The cannabis note is unmistakable, fuzzy and green, tangled with earthy patchouli and a peppery, leathery pimento that keeps it from dipping into typical stoner cliché. Tahitian vetiver and cypriol root add a smoky, almost medicinal undercurrent, like bandages soaked in amber resin. On the dry-down, the base turns into a plush, powdery oud and sandalwood blanket, soft but not apologetic, with cashmere wood and musk smoothing out the rough edges.

The whole thing feels like sitting in a vintage armchair upholstered in crackled leather, reading a forbidden book by candlelight while someone smokes a joint in the next room. It’s undeniably heavy, richly synthetic in the way that niche perfumery often is, with moderate sillage and good longevity, about seven hours on skin. This is not a daytime spring stroll; the numbers point to winter nights, formal or intimate, with a 91 percent night preference and a 100 percent winter rating. It suits someone who enjoys playing with darkness, who wants to smell complicated rather than clean. Skip it if you’re sensitive to cannabis or prefer transparent scents; the sugar opening can feel unbalanced, and the whole composition leans a bit too murky for warm weather. But for a cool evening, it wraps you in a strange, smoky comfort.
