Our take

In Red opens on bergamot, ginger, mandarin and cardamom, a genuinely busy top accord that settles fast into a long list of florals: lily, jasmine, violet leaf, pink pepper, rose, peony and black currant, layered rather than blended into any single dominant flower. Alberto Morillas built a base equally crowded, oakmoss, white musk, palisander rosewood, amber, vanilla and praline all working underneath, which gives the drydown a warm, slightly gourmand hum under all that fruit and flower.

Staying power is even-handed, comfortable without turning commanding, and the sillage forms a small, warm bubble around the wearer, easy to catch up close and easy to miss at any distance. Spring carries it best, with summer not far behind, and the day figures run far higher than the night ones, marking this as a daylight fragrance over an evening one. Black currant gives the whole thing a tart, sour snap up top that plays against all that praline sweetness lower down. The rose and peony keep some floral prettiness in play even with so much fruit competing for space, and the result stays busy and generous, closer to a fruit-and-flower stall than a single stem.
