Sceptre
Fragrance notes
Character
Pink pepper and Madagascar cloves snap open with a sharp, dusty heat, like cracking open a spice jar that has sat untouched for decades. Coriander adds a faint green flicker before the heart steps in. Here, peach and ylang-ylang soften the edges, a syrupy floral sweetness that threatens to tip into cloying but is reined in by patchouli’s earthy grip and wisteria’s powdery haze. The dry down is where Sceptre finds its footing: myrrh and Siam benzoin melt into amber and ambergris, a thick, balsamic warmth that clings close to skin. Longevity sits at a respectable 3.77, sillage a modest 3.35, so this isn’t a room-filler; it’s a personal scent bubble, a velvet-lined pocket you keep your hand in.
The overall character evokes a velvet smoking jacket draped over a chair in autumn, the fabric stained with dried peach juice and incense ash. It feels rich, decidedly sweet, and just shy of synthetic, straddling the line between niche ambition and mainstream wearability. No one would call it subtle.
Best reserved for fall and winter, when the amber-heaviness can breathe without turning sticky. It works for both day and night, though I’d lean toward evening for maximum effect. Who wears it? Someone who wants to smell expensive without shouting. Skip it if you recoil at fruity sweets or prefer bone-dry incense; the peach and ylang-ylang are a persistent, sticky hand on your shoulder.
