Our take

Sarmadi is a fragrance for the person who wants to be enveloped in a dense, architectural scent that feels like a dark velvet curtain. The opening makes this intention clear immediately. Birch and star anise combine with cardamom to create a spicy, resinous entry that feels deliberate and heavy. It does not invite you in with light citrus or fresh air. Instead, it establishes a mood of serious warmth that demands attention. The initial impression is one of dry spice rather than sweetness, setting a stage that feels more suited to a formal evening environment than a casual daytime setting.

The heart of the composition reinforces this argument through the inclusion of dark chocolate and smoke. These notes intertwine with Egyptian jasmine and pepper to create a texture that is rich and slightly abrasive in a pleasant way. The smoke accord is prominent here, giving the fragrance a distinct leathery character that pairs perfectly with the nutmeg. This is not a floral bouquet meant to smell like a garden. It is a constructed atmosphere where the chocolate adds depth without becoming a gourmand dessert. The jasmine provides a white floral lift that prevents the smoke from becoming too flat.

Composed by Christian Provenzano, the base settles into a foundation of amber, cedar, and myrrh, supported by cypriol and vanilla. This drydown cements the fragrance as a woody and amber-heavy experience. The vanilla here is not bright or sugary. It acts as a warm binder for the cedar and the earthy myrrh, creating a finish that feels ancient and resinous. The cypriol adds a muddy, root-like quality that keeps the sweetness grounded in something far more masculine and austere. It is a complex blend where the anis accord from the top returns faintly to dance with the soft spicy notes
