Our take

Arabi Cana opens with a blast of leather that is less polished handbag and more well worn saddle, the kind that has soaked up sweat and smoke and maybe a night’s worth of campfire stories. A sweet, almost syrupy tobacco rises quickly, not the dry leaf of a Cuban cigar but the moist, dark plug you’d pull from a tin after a long winter evening. The woody base settles in like a sturdy armchair, anchored by an animalic undertone that keeps things from drifting into department store vanilla territory. It smells decidedly niche, heavy and slightly synthetic in the opening blast, but the drydown softens into something more natural, a leathery skin scent with a faintly sweet, smoky residue.

Picture a man in a worn leather jacket, standing alone under a streetlamp after a snowfall, the cigarette smoke from his hand curling into the cold air. That is the mood. For all its weight, the longevity is modest for something this bold — about three to four hours before it clings close, and sillage is polite rather than room filling. You will need to reapply. This is a scent for autumn and winter nights, best worn by someone who wants to feel rugged without shouting about it. Skip it if you prefer fresh citrus or airy florals, because Arabi Cana is a heavy blanket, not a breeze. Could a tobacco leather be more straightforward? Perhaps, but its lack of complexity is also its honesty, a single minded story told well.
