Is this the vanilla that knows when to stop? That is the right question to ask here, because Toni Cabal built a scent around two heavy notes and still kept it wearable. Madagascar vanilla and benzoin sit at the center of the blend, but the texture stays airy rather than sticky. The vanilla smells like the bean itself, not the frosting made from it. Benzoin adds a soft, resinous lift that keeps the vanilla from collapsing into a flat, one-note sweetness. It smells expensive in the way good resin perfume does, not in the way a brand name on the bottle does.
The amber and warm spicy accords round out the edges without stealing the spotlight. It leans cozy, but it never feels like a cold-weather exclusive. The balsamic and powdery tones give it a slightly vintage, cosmetic feel that some will love and others will find dated. It smells like a scarf and a lipstick in the same breath.
For a vanilla-heavy scent, it stays surprisingly versatile. It works on a linen shirt as well as a wool coat. The unisex label actually makes sense here, because the balance does not skew obviously masculine or feminine. It suits someone who wants a vanilla that does not scream for attention.
The limitation is the narrow range. If you do not love vanilla in the first place, there is very little here to convince you. It is a love letter to one note, and it never tries to be more.
