Our take

The hotel lounge is quiet, wrapped in heavy curtains and the kind of air that feels thick with warmth. A glass of spiced tea rests on the table. The first impression is bright and slightly sharp, with bergamot and pink pepper cutting through the stillness. Ylang-ylang and apple blossom soften that edge quickly, adding a gentle floral lift that feels polished rather than loud. It is an entrance that promises comfort more than drama.

As the room settles, the heart reveals a powdery elegance. Orris and violet create a smooth, slightly nostalgic texture, while orange blossom adds a clean brightness. Rhubarb slips in with a subtle tartness that keeps the florals from becoming too soft. The base slowly takes over, and this is where the fragrance lives. Sandalwood and cashmere wood provide a creamy, balsamic warmth that feels substantial against the chilled windowpanes. Mango and lily introduce a tropical, fruity sweetness that clashes slightly with the woody foundation. The mango note feels synthetic here, sitting on top of the sandalwood rather than blending into it, which disrupts the otherwise refined atmosphere of the room.

That artificial fruitiness is the composition's weak point. It prevents the drydown from achieving the seamless sophistication the woods and orris clearly aim for. The scent remains sweet and musky, but the mango reads as a clumsy addition that distracts from the beautiful powdery florals and rich balsamic woods.
