Jolie Madame
Fragrance notes
Character
Jolie Madame opens with a blast of bitter green, a shudder of artemisia and coriander cutting through the sweetness of gardenia and neroli. This is no polite floral; cloves add a spicy heat, and the petitgrain keeps everything sharp and cold. The heart unfurls like a bruised bouquet, violet leaf and narcissus bringing a damp, earthy quality that the tuberose and jasmine can’t soften. Then the leather arrives, not smooth but cracked and lived in, tangled with oakmoss, civet, and tobacco. It’s a fragrance that feels like the inside of a vintage handbag found in a damp forest, all copper clasps and green rot.
The overall character is dense, animalic, and unapologetically vintage. It’s heavy in the best way, a thick pelt of green florals and leather that sits close to the skin. The longevity and sillage are moderate, which is actually a mercy, because this stuff can overwhelm in larger doses. It leans natural in its complexity, though the ozonic and herbal accents give it a slightly synthetic edge that feels very 1953.
Who should wear it? Someone who loves a challenge, who wants to smell like they just walked out of a noir film, not a clean white shirt. Skip it if you prefer aquatic scents or anything labeled ‘fresh’. Wear it in the cool months, fall evenings or a crisp spring afternoon, when the leather and oakmoss can breathe. Can you imagine a better companion for a stack of old paperbacks and a wool coat? Probably not. 🍂
