I.Utopia leans so heavily on its resinous base that the saffron and rose opening feels almost crushed under the weight of what follows. The initial spray promises a bright floral spice, but that promise is short lived as the dense woods move in fast.
You are standing on a stone terrace after the sun has gone down. The air is cool enough that the heat of the surrounding buildings lingers in the stone. Someone nearby is wearing this fragrance. The scent arrives as a thick cloud of patchouli and leather, smoothed by a heavy layer of amber and vanilla that feels more like a blanket than a breeze. The damask rose is present, but it is dark and buried deep within the balsamic smoke of the oud and guaiac wood. It smells expensive and overwhelming, the kind of scent that fills a small space and makes the air feel heavier.
The jasmine tries to lift the composition, but the cashmere wood and sandalwood keep it grounded in a deep, earthy place. White musk sits at the very edge, though it barely makes an impact against the precious woods. It is a fragrance that demands the entire room's attention, leaving no space for anything else to breathe.
The problem is that the rose never gets to lead. It is a supporting player in its own fragrance, overshadowed by a woody accord that refuses to let any light in. If you want the flower to sing, this blend will feel like a disappointment.
