Composed by Luca Maffei, the fragrance soon settles into its true character. The marron glace brings a glossy, candied nuttiness that pairs with the pimento seeds, creating a warm, resinous heart. Cypriol adds a dark, muddy depth that keeps the sweetness from becoming a simple sugar rush.
The base is where the name earns its place. Two distinct vetivers, Haitian and Java, anchor the scent with an earthy, rooty dryness, while Virginia cedar and black amber provide a sturdy, woody foundation. It feels like walking through a forest path where the air is crisp and the ground is damp underfoot.
That initial harshness remains the trade-off. If you are sensitive to aggressive spice, the opening minutes will test your resolve. It is a fragrance that asks for tolerance before it offers its reward, and that sharp start is the price of admission for the rich, nutty woods that follow.
