Our take

RS No.9 opens with a bright citrus flash of lemon and bergamot that meets the sharp, boozy edge of bourbon whiskey. The velvet note adds a soft, textured layer that rounds the corners of the fruit without muting it. This initial phase feels lively and slightly abrasive in a pleasant way. The whiskey gives it an immediate adult character that steers clear of anything sweet or juvenile. It moves forward with a clear sense of direction.

The heart settles into a firm leather accord supported by dry oak and the resinous weight of labdanum. Here the fragrance becomes darker and more grounded, with the leather feeling worn and authentic rather than polished. The base takes over with a heavy mix of oud and patchouli, creating a dense, earthy foundation that carries the musk through. The animalic and amber accords give the drydown a warm, slightly dirty complexity that feels appropriate for a cold night when the air is crisp and the sky is dark. The powdery aspect of the musk softens the intensity of the woods, but the oud remains prominent, pushing the scent into a deep, woody territory that stays close to the skin in a heavy cloud of spice and resin.
