Our take

The sun sits high over a stone courtyard where a small table holds a bowl of mandarin oranges beside a glass of cold lemon water. Someone has just sliced fresh rhubarb on a wooden board, the pink stalks releasing a sharp green scent into the warm air. Around the table, a faint violet dust hangs in the light, soft and powdery against the bright citrus.

Iris rises through the fruit, its earthy root character grounding the scene without dimming the colors. The air feels aromatic and sweet, a mix that leans into the green accords while the amber adds a gentle warmth to the stone and the wood. It is a floral moment that does not rush to become something heavier.

Ampersand launched this unisex floral in 2022, and the composition stays true to its name without becoming overwhelming. The rhubarb and citrus keep the iris from feeling too dry, while the violet and powdery notes soften the edges of the amber. It is a clear, present image of a garden in high summer.

The one limitation is the rhubarb. It smells a little synthetic here, more like candy than a fresh stalk, and that artificial edge distracts from the natural earthiness of the iris. The fruit notes lack the depth found in the amber.
