Dune Noir is not a gentle introduction to oud. The resin here arrives with a rough edge that can feel abrasive on first spray, and the leather in the base carries a stiff, almost plastic quality that never quite softens into something supple. This is a composition that demands patience from the wearer, because the opening pepper and bergamot do little to smooth the transition into the heart.
The scent builds a picture of standing near a crackling fire in a room filled with dark wood furniture and old books. Thick incense coils through sandalwood and sage, creating a smoky, balsamic atmosphere that feels heavy and enclosed. Amber adds a warm, animalic weight that pushes the fragrance further into the shadows. It is a bold, unapologetic statement that leans into its oriental roots without offering a modern, polished finish.
That same unrefined character is exactly where the fragrance stumbles. The synthetic sharpness in the oud note can become tiresome when the scent is worn for an extended period, making it difficult to enjoy as a daily staple.
