Our take

Majnoon opens with a furious burst of coffee and spice, clove and cinnamon and nutmeg fighting for attention alongside a tart, almost metallic pomegranate. The saffron adds a leathery glow that’s more aggressive than refined. Within minutes, the champaca and tonka begin to tame the beast, pulling it into a lush floral tobacco heart with a whisper of rose and a distinct animalic twang from the cypriol. That’s where the fragrance finds its footing: a dusty oud and vanilla incense base settles in, the two ouds (Thailand and Indian) bickering like old rivals while patchouli and amber sweep up the mess. The overall character is a dusty, smoke-stained velvet curtain in a spice market at midnight, heavy and aromatic rather than sweet or fresh.

The construction feels niche in its insistence on contrast, but the synthetic sharpness of the opening clove can grate, and the longevity (4.16) is reliable yet not monstrous, with sillage (3.71) that stays close after an hour. It wears best in fall and winter, especially at night, when its warmth can bloom without suffocating. This is for someone who enjoys being challenged, who wants a dark gourmand that isn’t really edible. Skip it if you prefer clean scents or fear the animalic edge; the rose and leather here aren’t playing polite. Worn to a cold-weather evening event, it’s a conversation piece that doesn’t need to shout, just smolder under the collar.
