Our take

Preparation Parfumee opens with a brisk snap of coriander and pepper, green and tingling like crushed stems on a dock in early morning light. The water lily arrives quickly, not as a syrupy floral but as a cool, translucent veil that floats over the woody skeleton of driftwood. That driftwood is the real anchor: sun-bleached, salty, slightly briny, carrying the memory of tide pools and damp stone. Olivia Giacobetti conjures an aquatic that is never chlorine-clean or synthetic; it feels like wet planks left out overnight on a seaside terrace, leaning into the warm spice of pepper and a faint, almost imperceptible softness that keeps it from becoming too austere.

This is a fragrance that sketches a single image: a glass of cold mineral water set on a driftwood table under a linen umbrella, the sea breeze carrying the ghost of a water lily from a nearby pond. It is fresh, yes, but with a dry, peppery backbone that stops it from floating away entirely. The accords read like a mood board: aromatic, marine, soft spicy, warm spicy, salty. Nothing sweet, nothing heavy, nothing that clings.

And there is the rub. The community ratings are telling: a solid 4.24 for scent quality, but a pathetic 2.35 for longevity and 2.66 for sillage. This is a whisper, not a shout, and it evaporates fast. You will need to reapply, or accept it as a brief, lovely visitor. It suits the person who values subtlety over projection, who wants a scent for quiet mornings, a spring picnic, a solo walk by the harbor. Skip it if you crave endurance or want to fill a room. Wear it when the sun is gentle and you have no agenda but to breathe. 🌿
