Our take

The opening of Deviant is a sticky, juicy slap of grape and raspberry, sugar-glazed and drenched in pink grapefruit’s bitter spark. Ylang-ylang tries to temper the fruit with a creamy floral whisper, but for the first few minutes, this is a smoothie splattered across a white tablecloth. Then the heart settles in: damask rose, plush and jammy, tangled with caramel and black currant. The orris root dusts everything with a soft, cosmetic powder, turning the sweetness into something more deliberate, more adult. The dry down is where the fragrance earns its name. Lipstick, leather, a whisper of oud and tobacco, all warmed by vanilla. The result is a scent that wears like a velvet glove with a leather cuff, soft and confrontational at once.

The longevity is strong, easily eight hours, and the sillage is a polite arm’s length, never overwhelming. But there is a synthetic edge to the fruit top notes, a candied brightness that feels more mainstream niche than artisanal. It skips the subtlety of a true naturalist blend. This is for the person who loves sweet gourmands but wants a dark, powdery underbelly. Skip it if you prefer crisp, airy scents or if animalic leather puts you on edge. Wear it on a cold autumn night, layered under a wool coat, when you want to smell like a lipstick kiss that leaves a mark. Winter loves it. Summer will melt it into sticky regret.
