Our take

L'Autre Oud opens with a sharp, medicinal snap of saffron and cypriol, the labdanum adding a resinous warmth that feels almost burnt. The clary sage cuts through with a herbal brightness, but this is no fresh start. Within minutes the rose pair emerges, Turkish and Bulgarian, not dewy or romantic but dark, almost fermented, pressed against a raw agarwood that smells less like polished luxury and more like a splintered oud chip left to sweat in the sun. The drydown is where it settles into its true character: guaiac wood and myrrh give a smoky, balsamic spine, while patchouli and vetiver anchor it in damp earth. The moss and amyris smooth the edges into something wearable, but the overall impression is a leather jacket left overnight in a spice market. This is a dense, heavy composition, natural feeling despite its complexity, more niche in spirit than Lancôme’s usual polished output. It suits someone who wants an oud that doesn’t apologize, who enjoys the dirt and the incense more than the flower. Skip it if you prefer airy scents or clean skin ambers. Best worn in deep autumn or winter, on a cold evening when you want to smell like you’ve been somewhere complicated. Longevity is strong, easily eight hours, but sillage stays close after the first two hours. One spray is enough; two might chase the room out. 🍂
