Our take

Lode opens with a bright, almost sharp citrus trio — citron, bergamot, neroli — that feels like cracking a cold soda on a scorching afternoon. The bitter orange blossom cuts through, keeping the sweetness in check. Then the heart shifts: blue hyacinth and geranium drag it into a green, slightly powdery floral lane, while sage and cedar add an aromatic spine that stops it from tipping into dandy territory. The base is a soft mush of musk and tonka, with amber warming the edges, but it’s more a whisper than a hum.

The overall character is a freshly pressed linen shirt, still damp and smelling of citrus rind and crushed herbs, left to dry in dappled sunlight. It feels natural and unpretentious, neither loudly niche nor aggressively mainstream — a clean, uncomplicated woody aromatic that doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel. The problem is the wheel doesn’t spin very long. With longevity barely scraping a 3 and sillage under 3, this is a skin scent that demands reapplication or a generous wrist spritz every two hours. Who is it for? The guy who wants to smell fresh without screaming for attention, who works in an office or meets friends for brunch under a summer sun. Skip it if you want projection that fills a room or a fragrance that lingers into dinner. Honestly, for the price and aesthetic, it’s a pleasant companion for hot months — just don’t expect it to stay for the whole party.
