Our take

L'Extase reads like a Nina Ricci take on gourmand florals, pink pepper and pear giving way quickly to a dense rose and raspberry heart. Jasmine and white flowers add lift to the rose without turning it heavier than it needs to be. Its hold is average, neither brief nor tenacious, and it casts a small, warm halo, present to anyone nearby without overwhelming them. Caramel shows up early in the base and stays there, sweetening the rose considerably.

Benzoin and vanilla deepen the caramel further, amber and musk rounding out a base that's warm and noticeably sweet by the time it settles. Patchouli and Virginia cedar add a woody undertone that cuts through the sweetness with something drier, a reminder that this is a rose at heart and not a straight gourmand.

Fall and winter are clearly its home, the caramel and amber reading as warm rather than cloying once the air turns cold, and night wear suits it more naturally than daytime does. Someone who likes rose pushed in a sweeter, gourmand direction should get along well with L'Extase, its caramel base doing most of the work to set the mood.
