Juniper berries and lime hit first with a cool, resinous snap. Mandarin and pear blossom soften the edges, but this stays a crisp opening rather than a sweet one. The citrus feels textured instead of juicy, giving the start a slightly medicinal clarity that prepares the ground for heavier material without smelling like a cleaning product.
Vetiver and frankincense take over with a dry, bracing warmth. Cloves and saffron add a gentle heat, while labdanum glues the heart together with a resinous weight. The transition moves from bright and green to smoky and architectural. It smells like a modern temple interior, polished wood and stone under controlled light.
Oud, cedar, black leather, and musk form a dark, slightly animalic base. The leather is firm and new, not worn or dusty, and it pushes the oud toward a sharp, commanding presence. Composed by Valerie Garnuch-Mentzel, the blend feels precise and urban. It suits a formal evening or a confident night out where you want to be noticed.
The synthetic edge in the oud is impossible to ignore. It lacks the rounded depth of natural varieties and can feel thin when compared to traditional oriental woods. The leather also leans a bit harsh, which makes the drydown less versatile than the sparkling opening promises.
