This stark opening may put off those who prefer a gentle first impression, as the blend feels austere rather than inviting.
The heart grows softer as lavender and fennel surround the tobacco, creating a herbal, anise-flavored warmth. Peru balsam and amber in the base provide a deep, resinous weight, while the tonka bean and oud add a rich, woody sweetness. The transition from that prickly start to this cozy, balsamic foundation is dramatic. It is a fragrance for dimly lit rooms and quiet nights, though the gap between its harsh opening and its comfortable drydown remains a difficult hurdle for the nose to clear.
