Our take

Montabaco Verano opens like a spritz of chilled grapefruit and juniper across a sun-warmed terrace, the cardamom and clary sage adding a clean, aromatic snap. There’s an airy, almost fizzy quality that lifts the citrus before the heart settles into a pale tea flecked with violet and a whisper of magnolia. The rose stays discreet, never syrupy. Then the dry down: tobacco leaf steeped in suede and cashmeran, with Iso E Super and sandalwood smoothing the edges into a soft, musky finish. It’s not a smoky barn tobacco, more like the memory of a linen shirt that spent the afternoon drying in a field of dry grasses.

This is Geza Schoen’s idea of a summer leather, light enough to wear with a breeze but carrying ambergris and moss that ground it. The longevity sits around three to four hours on skin, and the sillage hovers close, which is the real letdown. For a 4.32 rating, it earns points for composition, but you’ll reapply if you want to leave a trail. Who wants that in ninety degree heat, anyway.

It suits someone who loves a fresh, powdery tobacco without the weight. Skip it if you crave thick, resinous leather or beast mode projection. Wear it on a bright spring afternoon when the sun is high but not oppressive, or on a balmy summer evening when the day’s crispness lingers into twilight. It’s the scent of a white shirt collar, slightly rumpled, holding a ghost of tea and suede.
