Our take

Lemon and rum open this composition with a bright, edible lift that feels like sunlight hitting a glass of spiced fruit. Pink pepper adds a sharp bite that keeps the sweetness from becoming flat, while bergamot pulls the edges into something cleaner. Dates bring a heavy, syrup-like depth that anchors the top notes quickly, so the early impression is not a fleeting citrus spray but a thick, golden layer that settles into the skin with intention.

Roasted coffee beans and fir take over the middle, creating a dark, resinous heart that contrasts with the opening sugar. Black elder and orange blossom soften the bitterness, but litsea cubeba keeps a sharp citrus thread running through the center. The coffee here smells dry and slightly burnt, meeting the fir to form a smoky, forest-like density that feels deliberate and heavy, wrapping around the wearer rather than expanding outward into the space around them.

Céline Herbette built the base around oud smoke, leather, and labdanum, a trio that ensures the scent stays present on the skin for an extended period without demanding attention from everyone in the room. Cedar and guaiac wood add a dry, polished grain to the smoke, while oak reinforces the aged, woody weight that began with the fir. The leather is smooth, not aggressive, allowing the rum and citrus from the start to echo faintly through the dense, resin-heavy finish
