Cendre et Or
Fragrance notes
Character
Cendre et Or asks a lot before it gives much back. The cardamom opening is sharp and peppery, almost abrasive if you expect a gentle welcome. It takes patience to move past that first impression, and some will stop there. Composed by Nour Ibrahim, this unisex release leans heavily into its amber and warm spicy accords, creating a thick, resinous atmosphere that feels deliberate rather than accidental.
The heart brings damask rose, but it never plays the pretty lead. Instead, it sits quietly beneath a blanket of incense and oud, letting the smoky and balsamic tones take control. This is a fragrance that wraps around wool coats and heavy scarves, thriving in the space between a cold wind and a heated room. It feels niche and unapologetic, offering a dry, woody character that avoids sweetness entirely.
The rose tries to soften the edges, yet the overall composition remains stern and serious throughout. If you prefer airy, transparent scents that smile as they wear, this will feel too closed off and heavy. Cendre et Or demands a wearer who is comfortable with that initial cardamom bite and the unyielding, resinous path that follows.
