Our take

Alberto Morillas knows his way around a gourmand, but Plein Fatale feels like a sugar bomb lobbed at a wedding reception. It opens with a syrupy black currant that skips right over fresh into jammy territory, buttressed by a blast of ambroxan and pink pepper that try to keep things modern but end up wrestling with the florals. The tuberose and ylang ylang are thick and slightly candied, like petals dipped in simple syrup, while jasmine and rose add a powdery, almost cosmetic softness. The dry down is where it settles into its true character: a dense vanilla praline musk, with patchouli and sandalwood anchoring the sweetness so it doesn’t float away entirely.

This is a fragrance that wears you, not the other way around. The sillage reads like a loud whisper heard through a closed door, which fits the numbers: a modest 2.54 out of 5. Longevity hovers around three hours before it becomes a skin scent, which for a gourmand this punchy feels like a tease. The overall effect is like a rhinestone-studded clutch at a daytime party, flashy and fun but not built for the long haul. It suits someone who loves sweet, fruity florals with a heavy vanilla base and doesn’t mind reapplying. Skip it if you prefer airy, natural compositions or if you expect a fragrance to carry you through a full workday. Best worn on a spring or summer afternoon, preferably outdoors where the sweetness can diffuse, and especially for daytime events where you want to be noticed without shouting too long.
