Our take

Anise and lemon open with a sharp, clean bite that feels like a bright morning in a city where the air is still cool. Bergamot smooths the edges so the start never turns harsh. Violet leaf and cyclamen move in quickly, adding a green, slightly watery freshness that keeps the citrus from leaning too sweet. Lily-of-the-valley sits quietly underneath, giving the heart a soft floral lift that stays restrained rather than loud. The transition feels natural, moving from crisp top notes into something more textured without losing that clear, open-air feeling. Cedar and patchouli arrive with a dry woodiness that grounds the blend, while amber and musk add a warm, slightly powdery base. Leather gives it a firm character that pulls the whole composition toward something more serious and masculine.

The animalic accord is present throughout the drydown and will not suit everyone. It adds a rough edge that some will find appealing and others will find off-putting, especially in a setting where subtle scents are expected. The powdery facet also grows more noticeable as the fragrance develops, which can make the blend feel a bit dated to modern noses used to cleaner profiles. Patrichs released this in 1995, and that era shows in the way the notes are balanced. It is a bold choice for someone who enjoys classic masculine structures, but the combination of animalic warmth and powder may feel heavy-handed if you prefer contemporary, minimal compositions.
