Our take

People who already own a leather jacket they never take off tend to find Bottega Veneta fast. Pink pepper and bergamot open bright and a little sharp, but they burn off within the first stretch and hand over to jasmine sitting on a bed of patchouli and oak moss.

That base is where the fragrance actually lives, dry and earthy with an animalic edge that keeps the leather feeling worn rather than new. The patchouli in particular stays earthy and a touch damp, closer to wet soil after rain than to a sweet, powdery version of the same material. It stays put once it settles, and the sillage reaches whoever you're talking to, not the whole room, which suits close contact more than a grand entrance.

It wears equally well on a man or a woman, and it fits fall better than a humid summer day, when the leather and moss can sit heavy without turning cloying. The white floral in the middle softens the leather into something that reads on anyone, and that balance between soft jasmine and rough leather is what makes the composition work. People drawn to darker, mossier fragrances but tired of anything overtly gendered will find a genuinely rare middle ground here.
